More than 1.3 billion people worldwide lack access to electricity. Instead, the world’s energy poor use kerosene, candles, wood, cow dung and other traditional fuels for lighting.

Steve Katsaros, Chief Inventor and CEO of Nokero International and Firdaus Kharas, an award winning animation producer and director, are joining forces to create a multi-lingual mass-communications campaign to spur individuals and communities to move from dangerous and damaging traditional energy sources towards clean and renewable solar energy.

“If we can get millions of people to change to solar-powered energy, the result will be a seismic shift towards achieving a safer and healthier planet. In a humorous animated campaign we will clearly highlight the negative impact of traditional energy sources on health, the environment and economic progress and point out the advantages of clean, renewable, free solar energy” Kharas says.

The campaign will consist of twelve animated spots and one animated film customized in many languages to be widely and freely distributed via multiple platforms, including mobile technology. Nokero and Firdaus Kharas look to partner with like-minded local and international partners to spread the message.

“Nokero will support universal access to modern energy services, a key goal of the Sustainable Energy for All Initiative spearheaded by the United Nations, by promoting global awareness of the dangers of traditional fuels used for lighting and stimulating in-country demand for solar technologies. Firdaus is going to achieve for renewable, clean energy what he did globally to prevent HIV/AIDS, malaria and domestic violence. In supporting his work we will provide an everlasting impact on hundreds of millions of lives” says Katsaros.

Background: According to the International Energy Agency’s World Energy Outlook, over 1.3 billion people worldwide lack access to electricity. An additional billion have only intermittent access to electricity, leaving more than 30% of the population of the planet, literally and figuratively, in the dark.
