Part of a much larger project exploring the visual language of self-documentation. I thought that by visually documenting the negative elements in the junk food that I eat each day, I may decide to eat even less of it. (Bear in mind this is a one day project and is pretty rough and ready in quality!)
I converted the number of kilojoules of energy in
each substance per day into relative quantities of actual explosive power. I then created these explosions
using proportionate numbers of detonators. The quantity and type of E numbers in each snack was used as paint to leave a visual trace of the explosion on the canvas.
The start of the video shows me visually documenting
my consumption of the total quantity eaten since the start of the project. I recorded myself on video consuming this food. The quantity that I could not eat was allowed to spill over the canvas to represent excess.
