This is a video in which tendons are transferred from the functioning volar side of the forearm to the dorsal forearm to assist with hand functioning called prehension. The transfers are PT to ECRB, FCR to EDC, and PL to EPL. These tendon transfers allow the patient to better interact with their environment by moving the thumb and fingers out of the palm. By moving the digits away from the palm the patient is able to grasp objects move effectively. Tendon transfers can be performed at any time following nerve injury however this type of surgery should only be performed once the nerve damage is known to be permanent.
