a documentary film by
Bill Callahan

'Uncle Chuck: The Shanghailander' (22 minutes) is a documentary film that examines the life-style of Americans in Shanghai in the 1920s-30s, which was the imperial era when the city was controlled by Europeans, Americans and Japanese. It puts family history in the context of imperial history and China's current rise. This is the first part of the 'Uncle Chuck Chronicles', which traces one man's global journey through the 20th century. (Z14)
