In Marzo 2012 we took our first adventure to Valparaiso, Chile to teach screen printing workshops to the niños of the Valpo Surf Project. We have been fortunate enough to work with the VSP guys since the very beginning. We designed their logo. We donate our prints to their fundraisers, which we design the posters for. But this was the first time we were able to take the help one step further and work directly with the VSP and their students on the ground (and in the waves) in Chile.

We packed up our roadie case and brought down 6 pre-made screens, 6 squeegees, and primary colors of water based ink so the students could mix their own colors. The lesson started with a quick intro about what screen printing is and how the process works, since many of the students had no exposure or knowledge about the medium. We ended with the students making their own drop-and-pull compositions so each student left with their own unique piece.

Overall we taught 3 different screen printing workshops to over 30 VSP students that ranged from age 8 to 16. We flapped around in the ocean helping with surf lessons at Reñaca and Playa La Boca. We ate, drank, spoke, and toured our way through Chile like true gringos and made some great new relationships along the way. Can't wait to get back and do it again, bigger and better.
