To see how the "deshaker" software works with hd/mp4 footage. Compare with the original: (- hope I was allowed to edit)
The first frames are very shaky and some distortions couldn't be corrected. But all in all the video clip is much smoother. I simply used the default setting of the deshaker.

You need:
virtualdub video processing software
with quicktime plugin to open *.mov/mp4
and the deshaker filter for virtualdub:

The shaking black borders can be hidden by an option called "extrapolate colors into borders"
