Buderim Rainforest on the 500D
I just got my grubby little mitts on one of the newish Canon 500D Digital SLR camera's.
This was my first time out with the camera and I only had about an hour and half, which was a shame, because I think I could have stayed up in that rainforest all day it was that fun.
Shot on the stock 18-55 lens and an old 70-300.
I was quite impressed with the quality of the footage and love the depth of field, but I can't wait to get some fast lenses, as the ones I have leave quite a bit to be desired.
All shots are straight out of the camera with no colour correction.

I edited directly in H.264 and then exported to an even lossier H.264. Definitely not the way to do things.

I have noticed that on all videos on here these days.
YouTube is now comparable for quality.
Bad news for Vimeo!
You Tube could never be as good as Vimeo is :)))
And the big factor is Vimeo doesn't put up with some the idea from YT that leave nasty and stupid comment on everyones videos :)))))))))
Maybe when one with 25P, full manual control and intra-frame compression comes along, I'll spend the cash! :)
I have a feeling though, that once it's implemented on the 5D MKII, it shouldn't be too hard for a hacker to take a look at the firmware, see how it's been done and apply that to the 500D by way of a firmware hack.
Fingers crossed! :)
Thanks for the positive feedback mate. Yeah those spider shots came out alright considering it was a dodgy old 70-300mm lens that came with my 350D all those years ago.
Can't wait for some good glass. I just got my hands on the Tokina 11-16mm 2.8, so I might have to do another trip up there.
I didn't make it all the way to the biggest falls last time as I only had limited time. Now I have an excuse to go back! :)
the 11-16 will look amazing with the wide angle rainforest shots.. keep up the great work!
