Sacrifice? Do we mean a parent giving up their own preferences for their child’s? A batter voluntarily ‘out’ so another can advance to the next base? Taking a temporary assignment to gain experience? Giving time and money to help the poor?
Sacrifice always costs someone something. The atonement sacrifice of Christ is no exception – except that His sacrifice was the ultimate that could be given! Christ did not die as part of a cosmic deal to magically bring life or success to humanity. Christ was a true moral guilt substitute for the true moral guilt of each person.
