Hydrate is basically a bunch of churches from Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranga getting together to seek God away from the hussle and bussle of city life. Hopefully this film explains that!
The idea is not to create an event for "show", or "entertainment" sake, but just creating an environment where people can step back and re-connect with their creator.
My job was to film it! So here's what I came up with.
I've filmed this event for the last two years. 2011 was rained out so the awesome Raglan landscape got replaced for a concrete building in Hamilton. (not very inspiring!) So it was a relief for the weather to behave this year!
Each time I film something I challenge myself. I really wanted to pay attention to light for this shoot. Watching how it falls, how it exposes colors and the contrast it creates.
It was quite overcast for the first 4 hours of filming and normally that's awesome! But I really wanted the sun to come out and create definition amongst the trees. Plus shafts of light feels more spiritual! And it did! For about 30 minutes. So I frantically raced around re-shooting certain bits and making the most of the rich light while it was still shining.
Thanks to the Edge Kingsland for letting me use this track. It's called "Coda"
