92. raj + carolyn // same day edit . TN
we had a rehearsal dinner friday night, a catholic wedding all day saturday, and a hindu wedding all day sunday. this is the same day edit we produced to shot sunday at the reception.

tech notes:
shot mostly with the MKII with lots of primes.
used the pegasus and steadicam flyer for movement, and the cinevate 5d rig for support on the 5d.
shot in 30P due to timing issues to get the 24P conversion.
the garba and reception footage is 5D on the flyer.

wow... i really dont know what to say, do you guys color correct. or is that right out of the camera?
  • stillmotion plus 6 months ago
    hi jarrett,

i think in shooting the footage as close to exposure and proper white balance as possible really negates the need to color correct. what we spend more time on would be secondary grading and giving the footage a look and feel. for some pieces it is very subtle, such as a warm tone, and for some it serves to be more in your face, such as the yellow tint in darshan and raina's trailer.

umm... i don't understand... so the final edit is 30p not 24p? If it's 30p, still couldn't tell the difference with 24p. :D Nice work guys! as usual!
  • stillmotion plus 6 months ago
    hi Janix

    all cameras shot @ 30P -> timeline 30P -> final edit is 30P.

while we absolutely love the look and feel of 24P; we feel that it takes a back seat to the composition/movement of shots, lighting, story telling, but most importantly the emotions that carry the entire piece.

    content is forever King.

    - MYW.

While I like shallow DOF, you guys take it overboard with totally unwarranted and annoying focus pulls. Everything else is great as always. Like others, I liked the whip-pan transition too.
  • stillmotion plus 6 months ago
it is tough to create a piece that everybody will love and nobody will find fault in. i can see that we have more shallow dof in this and some of our recent pieces since we have implemented more MKII footage. our take is that depth of field is as important a part of the storytelling as the color, composition, soundtrack etc and it should be chosen and used with the same amount of care. we feel that the dof really varies with the mood and genre in which your shooting. action/thriller/comedy type stuff is generally wider and deeper dof to allow for improv and action. drama is usually in tight and shallower to bring you into the emotion and focus you. note how we shoot the guys preps with wider lenses and a deeper dof, as we did with the barrat which was high action. the shallower dof came in when the tone got more serious and reflective, such as the bride getting ready and the ceremonies. i'm not sure about you, but i think that is pretty well thought out and effective use of our dof in a wedding film.

which plugin do you use for the whip pan? was it DH WhipPan? that's probably the coolest transition i've seen in a while.
  • stillmotion plus 6 months ago
    chris

all transitions (including the whip-pan) were planned and storyboarded beforehand and hence everything was done in camera + final cut pro very simply.

Superb! 5D MKII is such great performer; people are using it as primary video camera! Super camera work, some stunning images have been captured, great job!

At 04:09 there are two green spot, what is that? It is because of scratch on the lens, and when two lights are on they are visible! Generally when we have scratch on lens this things occurs.

I am from Ahmedabad (India), so love to see Indian wedding ceremony, like those Garba dance! This Garba dance is actually from my home town it is traditional dance of our state Gujarat. We have every year in last week of September, this festival wherein all people do this dance. For 10 days all people go crazy, infect people are coming from other countries as well during this time.

I hereby invite you and others also to see one of my video on this Garba dance here is link (JVC GZ HD7): vimeo.com/466120

And my one wedding ceremony video link (Canon HV20): vimeo.com/771305
