We’re not even phased by Steve Nash leaving the Suns because the highschoolers of Carl Hayden High’s robotics team built a fully functional layup-shooting robot in six weeks. We visited the campus to catch the machine in action talk to Faridodin Lajvardi, the team’s lead mentor.
He told us the robot’s name is “Angelica’s Dream,” named after Carl Hayden alumnus (and robotics team member) Angelica Hernandez. She’s an undocumented student who went on to be the valedictorian of Arizona State University, earning her degree in mechanical engineering. Lajvardi says Hernandez is an inspiration to kids who may be in the same situation, so the team named their robot after her.
