This past weekend I had the good fortune to be invited to participate in the happenings at the Yellow Dog Cafe (at the Wheatland Music Org) for Traditional Arts Weekend in Remus, Michigan (formerly known as Dance Camp). I am old friends with one of the team of 4 who runs this food adventure. Little did I know how much fun this would be!
Yellow Dog Cafe is made up of a group of farmers from West Michigan who have planned ahead of time and worked very hard to use the best ingredients (95% organic, a lot of it local, all fruits & veggies were organic) to produce food that is amazing by anyone's standards. There is no Yellow Dog Cafe anywhere - it's just a group of people who come together one weekend, and make this happen. Lots of other volunteers come along to help - this weekend there were at least 20 of us there all weekend, working, working, working. It was my first time but they can't keep me away now! :)
Wheatland Music Org has a huge festival in September w/20,000 people but this festival has about 500 people show. It has workshops, performances, dances, and really good food. People are very friendly and it's a slow-paced laid-back weekend... except when the dancing starts.
