This Exquisite Forest is an online collaborative art project that lets users create short animations that build and branch off one another as they explore a specific theme. The result is a collection of animated narratives visualized as trees which anyone on the web can explore.
For this project we (Dinahmoe) built a revolutionising music engine. The music engine generates music based on very simple user input. The idea is that by describing the emotions you want to express the music engine gives you the music you need to do it.
The "usual way" to do this is to generate music based mathematical operations and a handful of rules, something that most often doesn't create a very interesting or musical result. Our approach was to make sure all music was made by real composers, and after that we apply additional rules and processing to make it more varied and dynamic. The result is truly orgcanic, real sounding music. Quite magic if you ask us.
