See all Show me
I recently had a chance to try out one of the Zacuto baseplate kits. This video shows off the rig on my Canon XHA1 and conveys my thoughts about the system.

The first and last sections were shot using a Red One by cinematographer Ryan E. Walters and the middle section was shot with a Panasonic HVX200/Letus Extreme combo by video producer Nathan Bosseler.

Thanks Steven, I was just looking at these earlier today actually, except for a 5dmk2 setup.

However for some reason the video is freezing at 1:25 for me..

Steven, great setup. Ive always been kind of opposed to Zacuto because of the prices but after seeing this video....I am really wanting to save up and get one. (even tho it might take a while for this poor filmmaker to get one, haha).

Question, do you only use those extra batteries to power your Marshall? I might think about getting the same setup but I was wondering if i can go handheld without the batteries as a counter-balance. Have you tried that? (I know its kind of risky and dumb to balance it without a counter balance...haha, just thought i ask).

I haven't tried it but the beauty of using Zacuto gear is that is is highly configurable. If there is a problem, you can easily change things around to find a solution. So the short answer is that it can be done.

Hi Steven, I've been watching your work for more than 1 year.
It is funny that after Eduard Schneider's testimonial video, everybody started to do this little reviews :)

    Comments:
I bet you never used the "genius design" zwingaway on this setup (it is a gear that in my opinion is design only for PL lens, photo lens differ in length)

My wife found the long nails strange, do you play any musical instrument?
  • Steven Dempsey 4 months ago
Lorand, thanks for the remarks. I do actually use the Zwing Away quite often. I have an extension bar I use for various lens lengths and it works quite well.

As for the nails comment, I have no defense other than to say I should have been more manicured.

Nice to know it's usable on photo lenses too, I'm sure many will find the review movies helpfull, I bought the indislider last year after seeing your shorts "After the rain" and "Snow motion" .

    best of luck.
