Fascist repression in Seville, Spain
Spain, today. Hardly two years after the timid, thirty years late “Law for the Recovery of the Historical Memory” condemning the violent regime of General Franco was ratified by the country’s Congress, state prosecutors at the court are determined to stop the most immediate effect of the law: the opening of mass graves and the investigation on the regime’s crimes against humanity.
This clip is an excerpt from 'Tierra', a personal documentary project on the subject. The project aims to put an entire era of Spanish history on trial whilst conveying the need for justice for the victims of Francoist repression, upholding their memory and openly posing the question of responsibility.
Here, I talk to archaeologist Juan Luis Castro from 'Foro por la Memoria', who comments on the scale of the repression that followed Franco’s victory in Seville.
