Trailer for our documentary about Rosenwald schools in Hertford County. Former students and teachers tell the stories of their schools. Built between 1912 and 1932 these schools grew out of the collaboration between Booker T. Washington, educator at Tuskeegee Institute and Julius Rosenwald, COE of Sears & Roebuck in Chicago.
Washington's vision and Rosenwalds funding (as matching grants) lead to the building of 5000 schools for the education of African Americans accross the South during the height of Jim Crow.
