Public Press: Clergy Protest California Supreme Court's Decision to Uphold Prop. 8

Monica Jensen

The California Supreme Court upheld Prop. 8 by a vote of 6-1 but ruled in favor to recognize the approximately 18,000 same-sex marriages that occurred before the November election.

An interfaith group of clergy members responded and led a peaceful demonstration from the courthouse steps to Van Ness St. at Grove after news of the ruling broke.

At approximately 12:30p, SFPD began arresting the demonstrators, including clergy members who were released within a couple hours for good behavior.
