Bill Salfen grew up in O'Fallon, MO, where his father was mayor for one term during the 1930s. He graduated from St. Charles High School, and later married a classmate; they later had 6 children. He started college at UMC, but was snatched up by the Army Air Corps for pilot training during the buildup to World War II. Bill became a B-24 pilot and flew many bomber missions over Germany. He was shot down, interned, and escaped... 3 times. After the war, he and a few other pilots started the Air Force Reserve unit at Lambert field. Bill was also active in St. Mary's parish. He is an engaging storyteller... you will want to hear every one.
