In times like these, talk is cheap and action is needed. During the opening session of the Detroit Regional Chamber 2009 Mackinac Policy Conference, leaders from some of Michigan's brightest private sector companies shared how they've partnered on business and philanthropic investments to improve Michigan.

John Rakolta talked about his company's (Walbridge) move to Detroit from Livonia and how it not only helped bring investment to the city, but it also changed the culture of his business. He shared the importance of supporting Michigan's non-profit organizations and the value partnering with them brings to both business and the community.

Panel:
John Rakolta, Jr., chairman & chief executive officer, Walbridge
William D. Johnston, president, director and chairman, Greenleaf Companies; chairman, Southwest Michigan First Economic Development Corp.
Rip Rapson, president, The Kresge Foundation
Robert S. Taubman, chairman, president and CEO, Taubman Centers, Inc.
Margaret E. Byington-Potter, founder and director, Detroit River Tunnel Project
