I was tasked with taking the alphabet and experimentally modifying the letters (for my Experimental Type class at the seattlecentralcreativeacademy.com/). The only limitation was to craft each of the letters in a semi-similar fashion so that they would appear to be a cohesive family.
My desire was to push the boundaries of when a letter becomes legible by playing with three dimensional space and paper cutouts. The font was based on the original designs of Adrian Frutiger’s Univers 59 Ultra Condensed. This is the stop motion video I put together to illustrate the concept behind the project.
