JAG35 Pro Depth of Field Adapter - First Impressions
6 months ago
I really like the $400 JAG35 Pro depth of field adapter. I am testing it out on my Sony HDR-SR11 and the results speak for themselves. All of the audio was recorded off the SR11's camera mic while the JAG was vibrating! It is very quiet!
Total cost of the the camera, adapter and lens: $1,200. Just goes to show that you do not need to spend thousands to shoot sick looking video.
This adapter does have limitations and you should understand them all before you buy it. Please read my blog for detailed information about my first impressions.

This is a great adapter for those of you who own the small HD cameras and want a cheap way to get the "film look" on video. This adapter will not replace Letus adapters.
I am using a 5 micron ground glass and you can get more info on this adapter at jag35.com

What was your tripod? with the white head.
Did you notice the pixelation occuring in the latest vimeo uploads. I didn't notice it in your video at first but now I do. I uploaded a video this morning and was dissapointed with some pixelation in some scenes. I uploaded the same vid to my facebook page and it is displaying FANTASTIC compared to vimeo.
I notice the pixelation in your video as well (pause the last shot). Saw a forum post that said they are encoding in a couple of different formats and one displays the pixelation.
I am using “Quicktime Conversion” in the file-export menu of Final Cut Pro.
My settings are:
Format: Quicktime Movie then click “options”
Video:
Settings:
Compression Type: H.264
FPS: Current
Keyframes: Auto with Frame Re-ordering checked
Compressor Quality: High with Best Quality Multi-pass selected
Data Rate: Restrict to 3000 kbits/sec
Optimized for: Download
Filter: n/a
Size: 1280×720 HD uncheck “Deinterlace Source Video” and “Preserve Aspect Ratio”
Sound Settings:
Format: ACC
Channels: Stereo
Rate: 44.100 kHz
Render Settings: Normal at 128kbps
Check “prepare for internet streaming” and select “Fast Start”
I also noticed that facebook provides better streaming video than Vimeo. I use almost the same export settings as you, except that I do not limit the data rate, and if it is a music video I use the highest setting for audio. I also do not select "fast start." I think "fast start" means "compressed header," is that right? Cheers, Paul
How did you get it to be so stable while rack focusing?
thx
I am going to try to modify an ipod cover (one with an open face) and elastic backing. I will sew on a little pouch onto the elastic backing to contain the magnet. Slip it over the lcd and away we go.
Looks like you selected the wide angle (conversion lens) option in the SR-11's menu. Any particilar reason for this?
