this is a social construct project: it invites other artists and those who support more spontaneous activity in our daily routines to come together this friday night to do a guerilla installation. we installed these swings under the holton bridge, in the media garden on the east side of the marsupial which connects many a neighborhood. these swings add purpose to our urban infrastructure and a playful interruption to those passing by. it is our hope that the installation will serve as not only an element of recreation, but as a point of reconsideration for these leftover spaces in our city.
this installation is part of beintween's social engagement initiative to make [art] do [work], and to help promote it's major initiative to continue the beerline recreational trail west of holton avenue, including the reclamation of a vast linear corridor as a park space for the harambee community. info on this initiative, entitled the artery, can be found @ beintween.org.
Plaese support the effort to bring the project that inspired the creation of these swings.
matireal is a geo-textile transforming an environmental nightmare into an ecological dream that inspired a new park called the artery.
