wow. frame 2:30 with the water and ice is amazing... how did you get the pan shot so smooth on such a lengthly shot? great work.
  • Andrew Curtis 5 months ago
I use a modified telescope mount for panning, check out my profile.

Beautiful Andrew. Were any TL's from compressed video?
  • Andrew Curtis 5 months ago
Nope, haven't tried that yet, although the D90 has a limit of 5 mins on video.
  •
  • Dustin 5 months ago
    The 2:30 shot was stunning.

im curious did you do the time lapse as photos the put them together or shot it as video and sped it up?
  • Andrew Curtis 5 months ago
All of the timelapse sequences are from still images.

Great video. It made Yellowstone to go to the top of my vacation spots for 2010...

It is a superb piece of art, the slow camera shots are intriguing - they show once again that the Mother Earth is really a living being! Congratulations and thank you for sharing your art with us.
By the way, the musical background is very adequate for the video, it sounds very nice…
  • Andrew Curtis 5 months ago
Thanks Alexander! Surprisingly enough, none of the video shots are slowed down.
  • Patxi Hastoy 5 months ago
LoL nice work. Andrew I am very curious to know how you managed to shot the last peace of it . The stars in the night. How?? still with your Nikon?

Excellent. How do you take time lapse stills with the D90? I didn't think the D90 had a time lapse option.
  • Andrew Curtis 5 months ago
I use a Pclix external intervalometer.
  •
  • Alexander Gromow plus 5 months ago
    Yes Andrew, you are right...
I used slow motion as I had to say "time lapse", a conceptual mistake, indeed.
    Again: good job!

How do you see the milky way? i've been trying to capture it on a time lapse but everywhere i go i get nothing... amazing video.
  • Andrew Curtis 5 months ago
Depends on the camera and the conditions, the D80 I had before couldn't really do it, the D90 just barely does. This was the first time I can remember being far enough away from light pollution to actually see the Milky Way with my own eyes.

Andrew, that was awesome. I was worried you shot that all in one day--glad it took you a few days. Love the way it flowed with the music and you are getting good! Now I have to drive 21 hours to visit Yellowstone--wonder how my 6 yr and 4 yr old will like sitting in one spot for numerous hours of the day.. lol. Keep up the killer work :-)
  • Andrew Curtis 5 months ago
Our drive was 12 hrs but 21 would still be worth it. Yellowstone is amazing...I was with many family members so I didn't really venture off the beaten path at all. There's so much to see!

You have to scroll down a couple posts to see the Yellowstone stuff. :) We stayed in W. Yellowstone, too. Such a great little town.

Out of curiosity where do you live. I saw you drove 12 hours! We drove from Spokane, WA (and it only FELT like 12 hours). It was more like 8 or 9. :)

That's beautiful! Brings back memories. Perhaps you'd consider Grand Teton National Park. We found the Tetons less travelled and is just, if not more beautiful. I was scrolling through the posts. Am I to understand you shot all this on video on the D90? Amazing! Thank you for showing me the potentials!
  • Andrew Curtis 5 months ago
We left through the Tetons, but didn't have much time left to explore. The straight video shots were done in "video mode", the timelapse sequences are compiled from still images.

Wow, absolutely beautiful! Words don't really do it justice. The night sky was beyond beautiful, and it was so wonderful to see buffalo. The baby buffalo was so cute... where was mom though? You've matched the images to the music just perfectly. Who did the soundtrack? It reminds me of SadSong.
  • Andrew Curtis 5 months ago
Don't worry, that calf wasn't alone, there were others in front and behind. The song is called Heard Them Stirring by Fleet Foxes.
