Members of SEIU in Maryland support the Maryland Dream Act, which guarantees that undocumented students have the same opportunity to pay in-state tuition at state colleges as their classmates, so long as they attended Maryland high schools for at least three years and their parents or guardians have paid Maryland taxes. (Male students must also have registered for the draft.) Maryland's state legislature approved the measure in 2011, but opponents gathered enough signatures to put it on the November 2012 ballot as a referendum.
