In its first summer season, the Museum for African Art’s Theater and Performing Arts Department partnered with SummerStage to present four compelling outdoor musical events featuring some of the biggest stars and most exciting new talents from Africa and the Diaspora. The summer lineup included West African musical legends Amadou & Mariam, Orchestre Poly Rythmo de Cotonou, and Sidi Touré alongside Cuban percussionist Pedrito Martinez and urban electro-pop musician Theophilus London. All concerts were free and open to the public.

This video explores the inner workings of the collaboration between SummerStage and the Museum in light of the importance of presenting African and Diasporic artists in New York City. The video features clips of performances and interviews with musicians, public and organizers.
