Rory McIlroy’s emphatic win at the 2012 US PGA Championship highlighted his ability to play great golf under pressure.

He has been on a steep learning curve since his dramatic final round collapse in the 2011 Masters. On that day Rory arrived at the first tee with a four shot lead. He reported that as he reached the top of his back swing he said to himself, ‘Ooh, don’t go left’.

Normally he would simply have a picture of the target in his mind, but on this occasion self-doubt got the better of him. All the golfing greats stress the importance of controlling their thoughts under pressure. The most famous example being Jack Nicklaus explaining how he "goes to the movies in his head" to see the shot he wants to play.

The research tells us that just like Rory McIlroy all golfers can learn how to control their thoughts under pressure. As a Golf Coach you can help your players to learn how to do this.

On Wednesday 7th of November Jon Finn will be running a CPD workshop at The Belfry to train Golf Coaches how to teach their golfers to be mentally tough when the pressure is on.

These short video clips highlight the type of lessons that golf coaches will be trained how to deliver
