DATE: Mar 29 2009
“You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercised authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, Matthew 20: 25, 26 “For event the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45
1. Let us be like Jesus and serve out of love—John 13:1
Jesus knew that the time had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he now showed them the full extent
of his love. John 13:1
“Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13
“I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.” John 12:24
2. Let us be like Jesus and serve, knowing who we are and where we are going—John 13:3
3 Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; 4so he got up from the meal, took
off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist.
Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. Philippians 2:6,7
“Here is my servant whom I have chosen, the one I love, in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations. … In his name the nations will put their hope.” Matthew 12:18, 21
3. Let us be like Jesus and serve, following his example. John 13:14-15
14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.
15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.
16 I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.
17 Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them. “I became a servant of this gospel by the
gift of God’s grace given me through the working of his power.” Ephesians 3:7
“Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.” John 12:26
