Sketchbot DIY MadL
This project started out as a proof-of-concept for setting up the Sketchbot blinking eye rig. I haven't started to rig up the bot itself, and thought I'd apply the animated texture map to a 3d MadL that I cranked out. I've been in a 3d customizing mode the past week, and figured I'd explore my first MadL concept. Possible candidate for the next artist series?

5 months ago Cool stuff! Is the eye a pre-rendered sequence, or is it actually rigged so that you can animate it like that? -

5 months ago Thanks Rune. It's pre-rendered at the moment. The trick is generating the frames prior to render, but being able to interactively control the rig all in one scene. What I'm going to try and do is set up render layers, so that the eye texture renders first, then the animated texture map is read in for the next render layer. -

5 months ago That sound pretty much like what I was thinking about doing as well. But I would really like to figure out a way to do this without any pre-rendering. It might be done by a rig controlling different layers of textures, and directly changing either UV values or frame numbers. I must look into that sometime in the future :) -

Bard Vandal 4 months agoI've been thinking about the same things as you and Rune on this actually, finding a way to set üp a rig with 2d textures à la Zelda: Wind Waker... there should be a way to make it work in Maya, but I'm still trying to figure it out.
