Bids accepted for new sheriff’s office, bridge, purchase of rescue truck
By ERIC TYLER
Approval has been given for officials to proceed with an addition to the Conway County Detention Center that would include office space for the sheriff’s department. The low bid for the project came in at $199,000, and the county’s quorum court approved an ordinance Monday night to appropriate $200,000 from the county’s contingency fund to begin the project. The expansion will allow the sheriff’s department to relocate its offices into the same building that houses the county jail.
Another approval by the quorum court at its regular monthly meeting allocates $63,000 for the purchase of a 1988 heavy duty rescue fire truck for the Sardis Fire District.
In addition, County Judge Jimmy Hart reported that bids have been opened for the reconstruction of Fryer Bridge in Solgohachia. The low bid of $439,393 was submitted by Lentz Construction Co. of Morrilton. The judge said the bid is awaiting approval from the project consultant and the insurance company and when that comes work could begin “very soon.”
The original bridge collapsed in April 2011. It was the oldest bridge in Conway County at that time.
