The fossil is a belemnite, Neoclavibelus subclavatus (Voltz, 1830) rostrum from the Late Toarcian (Upper Liassic, ca. 182 Myr) of Mistelgau near Bayreuth, Germany. It shows a heavily distorted growth pattern probably due to parasitism. This video was first published as Movie 4 of direct.sref.org/1726-4189/bg/2005-2-133 .
