"Bathtime"challenges images of beauty in a world where white is considered desirable and Blackness and attributed to everything that is unclean. In this piece, Black bodies are submerged in dark water. In any other case, dark water in a bathtub would be seen as dirty and somehow tainted just like dark skin has become a signifier of inferiority in the global context of colonization and practiced racism. Black bodies bathing in black water are turning that around, reclaiming darkness as something purifying, clean, festive, beautiful."
