Whale sharks in Papua New Guinea.
Based in the Ahe dive resort it takes a quite arduous 2 hour boat ride each way to reach the fishing platforms at the opposite shore of the bay. Groups of whale sharks can be seen on a regular basis in these shallow and protected waters even if not baited. According to the guard of the nature reserve authority who is accompanying these trips, the feeding simply helps to prolong the interest of the whale sharks to stay around rather than move on after a few minutes.
On this trip in September 2012 we counted six whale sharks ranging from 3-4m up to about 6-7m in length.
I used a Canon G10 camera in a Light and Motion Bluefin housing with an additional Wetmate wide angle lens.
