“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favour.”
(Luke 4.18-19 ESV)
Paul Clarke expounds a passage from Luke’s gospel, chapter 4;
from verse 14, “And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit
to Galilee … ”,
to verse 21, “ … Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing”.
Jesus was sent by God to proclaim salvation to sinners.
The Bible translation we use at St Helen's is the English Standard Version (ESV). If you don’t have a Bible handy then here is a link to Luke's gospel, chapter 4 - esvbible.org/Luke+4/
