Very nice Dave! How are you liking the Canon?
  • David Aldrich plus 5 months ago
The HF-S100 is pretty sweet. Images are a step up on the older hf100 and the 24 mbps codec is more robust. HF-S100 also has much better manual controls than the hf100 including control over the gain.

The HF-S100 is heavier though, making it not as good for mounting on hang gliders.

How would you relate it to the Panasonics (e.g. SD9?)? Easier to edit reliably? I'm about sick of this thing and only thing holding me back is all the great footage I've got. Maybe I'll just bite the bullet, transcode it all, and go from there...
  • David Aldrich plus 5 months ago
AVCHD is still pretty much a pain. Fast computer + Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 is the best solution I have found. CS4 handles AVCHD natively so no transcoding required to edit, although it is a processor hog, hence the fast computer, quad core +

Thanks Rytis! The only thing crazy about hang gliding is the fact that I'm not doing it right now!

do you need to go to learn how to fly? do u need any kind of license? And how much the equipment costs?:) i would love to try it, even im scared to death of the high :)
  • David Aldrich plus 5 months ago
The best thing to do is go to an instructor to learn.

No license is required but in the US we are all members of the United States Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association.

Equipment cost vary with performance I spent a total of about $4000 learning to fly and getting all my gear. That includes lessons and club memberships.

I absolutely love to fly but am also terrified of heights. Its a totally different feeling from standing on the edge of a building or something.

Check out hanggliding.org for tons of information including where you can take a lesson in your area.

Thanks ill go to check it. Is it posibile to fly from the ground, where there is no rocks or mountains? I came from Lithuania, where is no highs, even no big stones..:(
  • David Aldrich plus 5 months ago
There sure is. You can do aero-towing which is where you tow up behind an ultra-light aircraft. There is also scooter towing and truck towing. Hang Gliding is very popular in Florida, not much for hills or mountains there.

David! I just saw your video on Tom Guilmette, Philip Bloom, and Jehu. Funny, I discovered all three of them the same way you did and now here I am discoving you and your work.

Loved the video. Hang gliding looks sick. I hope to learn as much as I can possibly learn from all of you guys and hopefully produce some decent looking videos myself. I am a dad who works full time so I have to try to make time to shoot video of interesting things besides my children (the best subjects for me)

Keep up the good work. Check on me every once in a while too.
