Haha, I like the steadicam shots. They completely remind me of the Mark Romanek/Mick Jagger music video:

    truveo.com/mick-jagger-feat-lenny-kravitz-god-gave-me/id/104146748

The color you got out of that D90 is ASTONISHING

    Great job!

And out of curiosity, what did the rig look like?
  • Jan Reichle plus 2 years ago
Thanks Aaron. That clip was definitely part of the inspiration for the bodyrig shots.

Looks like this (but from the front):

Jan I love all of your work!! I have a D90 as well, i've been using it solely for all of my videos. I wanted to know for Heartbreak Scorsese, did you mix footage from the D90 and Red One? Or was it something you did in post? Sorry, not sure what you meant, never used Red One, even though I'd love to someday! Thanks!
  • Jan Reichle plus 2 years ago
Girls destroying & burning things at night = Red One
    Everything else = Nikon D90
    Glad you enjoyed it!

Surprisingly, I badly speak on English, but nevertheless I wish to tell something to you, I have looked your work and have understood, that with the great pleasure there would be your pupil, an interesting approach, good transitions, director's work and video installation for me at high level. It is a pity, that I can not find in Russia the good teacher.

    Amazing..
Do you mind telling us the settings on the D90 FOR THIS AMAZING VIDEO??

And would you say D90 is the ultimate camera to get for video/small films onthat price range?

    thanks and Keep it up..
  • Jan Reichle plus 2 years ago
    Thanks Victor!
    D90 with 16mm, 28mm, 50mm & 28-70mm lenses.
Use AE lock button to lock exposure.
The D5000 & D300s do video as well. Also check out the Canon 5DMk2 & 7D.

    It's just awesome !

The quality of this video is amazing !

What lenses have you use for the scene where we see SNOB SCRILLA portrait with his glasses ? Cause it's extraordinary sharp

Steadicam for the Walk in the street ?

    Thanks a lot
  • Jan Reichle plus 2 years ago
So happy you like it. Thanks!
For the portrait shot I used a 50mm f1.2 Nikkor on the D90, which magnifies it to a 75mm.
For the walking I used a Body Rig that attaches the camera to the actor by the waist.

cool! How was the workflow with the D90 cause I always have some troubles setting it up. Do you open the aperture ring wide open and then point it at something that is lit up and then AE Lock, and then turn down the aperture again plus correcting a bit with the ev exposure. (cause that's what I do, but it always takes a long time to be sure you get it right). Or what did you do? :)
  • Jan Reichle plus 1 year ago
    - converted everything to prores codec with compressor
    - exposure was tricked by AE locking when the built in meter was getting the right levels
    - got pretty fast with it
    - much easier to expose with newer firmware of Canon 5D/7D
  • Ill Stefanó 1 year ago
alright. Thanks. Yeah, I should've bought the 7d, oh well. As you, so very well show, it is capable of amazing things.
  • Jan Reichle plus 1 year ago
Clever statement. In most cases it's how YOU make use of the technology.
  • Ill Stefanó 1 year ago
mmm I agree. And having just re-watched the Man with a Movie Camera I am again confirmed in it. It's like the ultimate 'vimeo-like' film of its time, in my opinion. Because it shows all the amazing technical film gags of its time, you could say. Hehe :)

Awesome! Hey, how could you record the videos without noise? When i record movies with D5000 (in low light), the files are full of noise.
  • Jan Reichle plus 1 year ago
Set it to MANUAL mode. Shutter at 1/50 and biggest aperture possible on you lens. Only wind the ASA as high as you need it (not too high) & presto. Thanks Gabriel!

Thanks so much Nicollo! It was my first DSLR shoot. I shot 25fps, as I live in a PAL country.
