This is an edit of a series of clips I filmed out in Austin, Texas whilst there for SXSW in March 2009. I'm looking into making a documentary about country, blues and folk music in Liverpool in 2009 and one of the artists I want featured (Mike Badger) was playing out in Austin and he'd met some nice like minded singing souls from Nashville and we all went over to the house of their friends Kevin & Cathy and I filmed everyone singing for a couple of hours whilst the beers and rum were passed around. It's all single take unrehearsed songs as Emily Grace & Mathew Gardner from Nashville sing with Mike Badger whilst others join in. This was shot on a Sony HVR-A1E, which recorded the sound, whilst a Nikon D90 was used for the second shots. All very rushed as I was filming on my own etc etc
It's rough and ready with wind chimes, dropped beer bottle noises and unrehearsed stops and starts but the performances are great. Mike is now back in Liverpool and the Nashville singers are coming over in July '09 for a series of more rehearsed shows and the details can be found here - myspace.com/nashvilleliverpool
Meanwhile, I'm starting to work on the film once I've picked up a camera and worked out a few more ideas but until then the learning curve is getting steeper and any advice from others who are shooting music documentary stuff on a shoestring and on their own would be much appreciated.
