Inspired from the alarming growth of nationalism in the United Kingdom throughout 2012, Батьківщина (2012) is situated during the Irish Civil War. The piece provocatively juxtaposes Ukrainian culture with Irish folklore and history to explore the universal issue of nationalism. The piece is edited from Alexander Dovzhenko’s Ukrainian trilogy, Zvenigora, Arsenal, and Earth, and features an original composition for Mandolin, Piano, and Laptop.
Батьківщина was premiered at Nowhere 2012, MA/MFA Computational Studio Arts show, with a live screening, and thereafter presented along with Вавилон as a video installation.
