Reading for the Rest of Us is a book-chat show about the pleasures of reading. Check us out on Facebook at facebook.com/ReadingForTheRestOfUs. We're starting a video blog project featuring testimonials from readers about why we love books. Interested? It's easy and safe to join us!
1. Pick a theme, any theme. We're less interested in specific books than in specific types on enjoyment. Diane's was escapism (though she forgot to say the word). Mine will be vocabulary, bc I read for phat polysyllables that I can drop on an unsuspecting citizenry. Think about what specifically you get out of reading enjoyment-wise.
2. Talk off the cuff for 1 minute. Doesn't need to be any longer than that. If you're local, I'll happily film you on my webcam in the setting of your choosing (creepy as that sounds). Or you can film yourself on your phone and email it to us and we'll use our rudimentary editing skills. Unlike political ads, we promise not to take anything out of context.
3. If you'd like to use your name, then that's fine, but not everyone's comfortable with that. Not everybody's comfortable with their face on the web. If you'd like to put on a paper bag and do a homage to the Unknown Comic, we won't go Jaye P. Morgan and gong you.The more fun you have, the better. You can even film your feet if you want as long as your audio is on. The only rule is you must be clothed. (Sorry, Mike Adams).
4. Where will these videos go? For now we'll post them to our Facebook and YouTube pages. Eventually we'll have a website with a specific page devoted to these testimonials. Again, the goal is to encourage people to talk about the reading experience, the fun of it as opposed to all that dreary stuff about how good it is for us, our teeth, and our bone density, etc.
If you're interested, just drop us a line via facebook or at firstname.lastname@example.org and we'll talk more turkey. We hope you'll join us!
