In October 2012, 3 Mills Studios celebrated their legacy of film making by opening their doors to the public for the 'Made in 3 Mills Film festival'. I ran an animation workshop to demonstrate some behind the scenes techniques used on Fantastic Mr Fox & Tim Burton's Corpse Bride & Frankenweenie, all shot at 3 Mills.
The plan was to somehow recreate a sequence from Fantastic Mr Fox in 2 hours using 1 camera & 60 people! 'Somewhat manic' just begins to describe it, but it was a lot of fun & we shot an impressive 26 seconds of stop motion animation!
After a screening of Fantastic Mr Fox, the new filmmakers watched their finished work projected in the cinema. Well done guys, let's show those Hollywood bigwigs how it's done!
No doubt Wes Anderson will be re-editing his film to include this new sequence. I'm sure he'll be in touch...
Huge huge thanks to Jen Newman, Carmen Mason & Tom Bowness for giving up their time - this never would've worked without you guys!
The staff at 3 Mills Studios, Sugarhouse Studios & Assemble were fantastic & made this as smooth running as possible. Special mention to Tom Avison & Bruno Burton. Thanks guys.
& a big up 'nuff respect to Matt & Elizabeth Day at Clapham Road Studios for camera rostrum rental & showing me how to steer clear of a workshop shattering 'technical hitch'!
