Recently, I have realized that elements of daily living are a common thread of interest running through much of my work. Making sculpture out of my household’s detritus, is an obvious example, but I have long been frustrated by the distinction between other day-to-day activities and making art. Although often present in my work, I have been consciously moving toward incorporating more aspects of daily life in my sculpture.
In this installation, I use video to document work on and around my house. For me, this creates an observational point of view—a way of stepping back from what I am working on in order to gain some perspective. The piece is comprised of five separate videos that are shown simultaneously, on one screen. Most of the completed roof brackets were displayed with the videos.
