People of every culture look to someone or something to break into the ordinary and intervene in
extraordinary ways. The best humanistic offering is a version of pop psychology, while the worst is
a demonic counterfeit. Yet in God's design, He both offers exactly what we need through spiritual gifts,
as well as uses available Christ-followers to deliver those gifts with extraordinary power.

The first test of the fullness of the Holy Spirit in our lives is lordship. Our lordship to Christ will transcend
the barriers of class, culture, even our own insecurity, flaws and failings. The Gospel levels the playing
field by reminding us that God is able and willing to interrupt our natural life with the supernatural.

In understanding the spiritual gifts we must realize that the best spiritual gift is the gift we need for
the current specific situation. We don't “own” the gifts we are given, we distribute them. God is not
impressed by our individual accomplishments or self promotion, but wants all the gifts to be expressed
in a spirit of love. Every Christian is a candidate to distribute any of the gifts, but love is the container
from which the gifts are distributed. Repentance, forgiveness and humility help to enlarge our capacity
to love and be used by the Holy Spirit to minister to others.
