While over 65,000 Syrian refugees are officially registered in Turkey, an unknown number of refugees, estimated by aid groups to be equal to those registered, are living outside of Turkish Red Crescent camps. They live in abandoned Turkish homes, or hastily prepared communal housing. Unwilling to live in refugee camps, they are nonetheless dependent on their new Turkish neighbours and NGO aid for survival.
