Rowing Solo Across the Pacific - without aid - a world first
8 months ago
The Zeeman Ocean Challenge.
Last December I met Adventurist Ralph Tuijn in Castricum, Holland. I asked him if he had any footage of his last adventure. Over a few beers I watched footage of his row across the pacific and was amazed at his achievement. I told him I wanted to cut up something for vimeo and he gave me copies. This is four minutes of Ralph's 281 day rowing adventure across the Pacific.
Ralph has spent 369 nights at sea in the last two years. In that time he has crossed both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans in his rowing boat. He has covered a total distance of over 20,000 kilometers, more than half the globe.
This trip across the pacific was to raise funds for a children's orphanage in India.
Ralph has already begun testing a new boat for a new adventure to be announced here soon:

Thanks for sharing this video. Where is the 4 hour version to be seen?
The presentation is entertaining too. Maybe just as a suggestion ... a narrative voiceover would have made it even more thrilling. Also the music could have had some kind of dramatic peak during the "thunderstorm part" of the story. Also the still pictures with subtitles do not meet the situation so 100% ... man, I would have pissed in my pants experiencing something like that ;-)
But all in all, a great work !!! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
That is amazing and what an amazing guy.
I really love your edit on it mate and the sound track you have used :))
GREAT STUFF, Geoff :))))
It's great to see you back in the drivers sit again doing what you do Soo well.
Thanks for thinking of me mate and sharing this with me.
We'll have to catch up for that beer when it warms up a bit :)) xo
I know, how is this cold snap?!?! It sux. The rest of the world will laugh at us saying it is 6 degrees at night and 25 degrees in the day for our winter. But I surf at 6am. And it's been rather tough.
I can't wait to have a beer with you@!
Guess you could call that a "Trip of a Lifetime"
great edit Geoff
well done both of you!!
I haven't forgotten you. Just bombarded with work. But cheers for watching.
Thought the music suited the whole very well and loved the clips of the sharks and of the turtle - looked like it had become a pal.
Thanks for sharing this - great work both you and Ralph
But he captured the whole trip. He told me he exported his days footage by satellite back to base. And his camera kept working even when his boat rolled over several times.
Cheers dude!
Must have been a damn good satellite link too, to succeed in uploading large video files from the middle of the Pacific on a daily basis. Wonder who provided that (sheer curiosity...)
nice job Geoff.
He's an incredible guy.
Catch up soon!!!??

Noice one Hiphopopotumus.
I think you should work on an even longer cut - I could watch much, much, much more of this story.
cheers for watching!
Am also back in Holland this December to interview Ralph, show the new boat, and talk about his next mission.
Love the 'tough edit' comment above - it's all about perspective :)
Thanks for sharing Geoff.
Will be back in Holland this december to interview Ralph and talk about the new adventure. I can't reveal it, but it is mind blowing - and a bit crazy.
Thanks for watching Stephen

I heard about this short in Zacuto.com on Critics Episode 2.
This was a really quick slap together highlight short of Ralph's journey. But Phil & Steve of Critics have given me the legs to go and create a feature. So I am back in Holland soon to do that. Appreciate your comments.
