Great work! i really like the flow of the video with the song. What kind of field monitor did you use for the HVX? I have a HPX170 and desperately need one. Cheers!
  • Dillon C. Novak plus 2 years ago
    Thanks man

    I believe it was a Panasonic BT-LH80W 7.9

    But i'm not sure.

Excellent stuff, great shots, nice flow. Great example of how creativity doesn't take 50 lenses and 30 cameras. Excellent grading as well that really pulled everything together.

Oh by the way, did you use a manfrotto or other . ahem how to put this not so expensive tripod? Some of the dolly shots seem to "hook" a bit.
  • Dillon C. Novak plus 2 years ago
thanks man, i used a manfrotto head. It was my first time on a dolly you stand on....so it has a bit getting used to =D.
  • Maarten Toner pro 2 years ago
Right, just watched the making off: now I know why I got '80's flashbacks when watching some shots, you used the same Manfrotto I practiced with all those years ago.

Actually like the moves this way, makes it a bit edgier, just like the handheld stuff you did. Very nice, getting things perfect can make the boring as well.
  • Dillon C. Novak plus 2 years ago
"getting things perfect can make the boring as well. "

    i agree, thanks for watching!

  • Hey,
I have an XH A1 and just orderd a letus with a nikon 28mm and 50mm lens. I was wondering what shoulder support and follow focus you used for this.
    Thanks,
    Will Mayer
  • Dillon C. Novak plus 2 years ago
i used a DvRigProHD for shoulder rig, and a shoot 35 follow focus.
  • Thanks alot man

could you produce the same looking product i your were to use an Xh A1 with a preset and post color work?
  • Dillon C. Novak plus 2 years ago
Hmm you could do close with the same 35mm adapter. But it would be very difficult to replicate.

i like. Were those actors? Who were they? What direction did you give them? Fav part - 1:56. What are you working on now as a director?
  • Dillon C. Novak plus 2 years ago
yes they were actors one from craigslist the other from a talent agency. I am working on the pre-production of several other music videos and that music video that you just saw the teaser for. I co-directed that one "the skyline surrender" and co-shot it.

Great video. Loved the buttery smooth bokeh that made the sand dunes almost look like a back drop. Great location too, The Great Sand Dunes was one of my favorite places to go when I lived in Colorado!
  • Dillon C. Novak plus 2 years ago
Thanks man, i love colorado! the great sand dunes was just a resource that i couldn't resist using. ;)

This was Brilliant! Nicely done mate. Did you film the band in real time, or was the track sped up on set? Some part's looked slow motion, but the lyrics were still in sync. Cool. Did you rent all that gear, or do you own it? Also do you have a personal site with all your work?

    Nice job man.
  • Dillon C. Novak plus 2 years ago
Thank you very much! We filmed both in real time and in slow motion. The track was sped up for the slow motion shots. Rented most of the gear, yes i am actually launching a webpage with my work on it sometime in the two weeks. But until then i just direct clients to myspace.com/montaukmedia
