Helping young Ethiopian Jews to break the cycles of poverty and racism is a major challenge in Israel. Cultural differences, language barriers, and racism all play a role in retarding the advance of this most ancient branch of the Jewish people. Asher Elias, a graduate of Jerusalem’s College of Management is also the son of Ethiopian Jews who came to Israel in the days before Operation Moses. When a national scandal broke out in 1996 over the wholesale destruction of blood donations from Ethiopian Jews, Elias was moved to dedicate his life to ending discrimination against Ethiopian Jews by closing the digital gap between them and the rest of Israeli society.
