We shot this on Blama Beach, Sierra Leone in October, 2011. We went to the village to film some of the villagers about their war stories, and met across Jarvis. He was a very enthusiastic surfer who was keen in us a filming around his home. We was delighted when we proposed we could make a film about him, this was shot in under half an hour. A quick interview, then we strapped a GoPro to his board, went out with the Olympus in its underwater casing, filming from the beach with a 75-300 EF Canon zoom and that was it. The last shot as you see the screen tumble into darkness . . . that was the GoPro falling of the surfboard. I am very thankfull it was low tide, otherwise we would have never found that camera!
