thanks a lot for the kind comments! I share the merit of these images with my DP Guga Millet (gugamillet.com).

Please spread the word on this teaser, I've been working hard the last 2 years of my life to make this 18 min short-film.

thanks again for all the comments, please spread the word on this teaser!

We made this film mainly using a Sigma 27-70 zoom lens, and sometimes a Nikkor .50. I wonder what things would be if we had money for fixed Zeiss...
  • Ivan Babko 2 years ago
You don't have to be rich to buy Zeiss lenses. There are old Contax Zeiss lenses which are as good and sometimes better than modern ZF and ZE versions. I own 28 2.8, 50 1.4, 85 1.4 and couldn't be happier. The total cost of these wasn't more than $1000.

Great trailer. Actually I thought you were using Zeiss. Cheers.

very nice, Bernardo! good lighting and DP.
except for the shots where she climbs up the stairs it looks and feels like a blockbuster trailer!
  •
  • Bernardo Uzeda 2 years ago
ahha I understand what you mean... but what's bad in looking like a blockbuster trailer? The idea and challenge of this teaser (and the film) was exactly this! Make a simple low budget short film shot with a digital stills camera look like a big production. thanks for the comments!
  • Hi Bernardo - looks fantastic. End of story. And you composed the music, too?! You should be very proud of this.
  •
  • Laerte Késsimos 2 years ago
    muito bacana!
    sorte ai!
também estou rodando um com a markII
  •
  • MIchel 2 years ago
OHH NO, I meant it in a very good way!!! The scenes with the ladder just are the only ones that actually reveal that it is video due to the small dynamic range in those shots. The rest is absolutely top notch! Comparing your 5d VIDEO trailer with a big budget FILM trailer is the greatest compliment I can give .
I think it's more important that it FEELS like film, not just LOOK like it and I think the trailer succeeds in doing both! GREAT WORK!

  • Bernardo Uzeda 2 years ago
oh now I get it! thanks a lot! By the way, these images are extremely color graded and also processed with noise reduction... sometimes I feel it's a little bit "too clean". But anyway, we're trying to do a 35mm print, probably the first 5dm2 35mm ever! Of course we don't have the money, but we're thinking about it anyway!
thanks again for the kind comments!

First 5D MkII 35mm film-out ever? Boa Sorte, pois há outros na corrida. LOL

    Felicidades !
  •
  • Bernardo Uzeda 2 years ago
are there any other 35mm destinated short fictions 5dm2 projects being made? I've done a lot of research and found none... I would love to see more short fiction projects made with the 5dm2, but I can only find tests, documentaries, videoclips, wedding material etc.

I was just joking, you're right. It seems you'll probably be the first one but others will succeed. I hope to have a series of shorts and a feature shot on 5D Mk II during this and next year.

By the way, I've seen you did an extreme grade. Have you been noticed additional difficulties comparing with RAW?

And about the noise reduction, do you know this tool posted here?

Meus Parabéns/Congrats on your teaser work, it does promise to be worth the 35mm film-out @ big screen indeed :-)

Beyond directing, I'm also used to give some help to other people/projects in Europe as co-producer. Here's my background:

Oh I'm sure A LOT of 5dm2 films will appear on the next months... the thing is that I had the script ready to shoot when the camera was released, it fitted like a glove in the project (it was not a project 'made for canon' like most of the films that are being made now).

I colorgraded many of the shots, someones were completely transformed due to conceptual ideas (like the lady and the city on the BG, on the original shot we could clearly see the actress, on the graded one I choose to leave her on the shadows) and other shots just had some little adjustments.

I feel that Canon has a little bit too much of red on the shadows-region, I usually take a bit off and also -10% on master saturation.

The noise reduction plugin I use is exactely NeatVideo, I think it's GREAT (specially for the price), it has saved many almost-ruined shots that we did in low-light and with a not-so-great lens.

By the way, thanks a lot for the compliments! We're struggling for this 35mm print, but money is always getting on the way =] all the best!

Hi Tracey, We'll be screening in film festivals over the world (I HOPE!) soon... after this stage, the film will be on the web probably. thanks for commenting
  •
  • Congratulations, man! It really looks and feels like a high budget production but also made with pretty nice style.

I´m working in a script for a long feature film that will be shot with a couple of 5Ds so I really appreciate all the info you´re sharing -specially on printing on 35mmm-

    Good luck!
  •
  • By the way, I just checked your website and it answered some questions... but what´s the name of that plastic bag you used as a housing for the camera? where can I get one?
  •
  • Bernardo Uzeda 2 years ago
Hey Manuel. thanks for the comments, the plastic bag is a DICAPAC (or something similar!), made for DSLR cameras, it costs something like 100 bucks on Amazon or Adorama etc... it's not 100% safe, but we used it at our own risk since we were only doing a couple of shots on a small swimming pool (i would never use it on a beach / salt water etc.), best of luck with your project.!

  • Bernardo, do you apply custom mask shapes for noise reduction? can you tell me the picture style used and the f stop of the nikkor lens ? what shots are whit sigma and nikon? the sigma is the 27 - 70 f 3.5 ?
Thank you.. i´m from colombia.. .go mark ii!
  • Guga Millet 2 years ago
    The sigma was a 24-70mm f2.8 and the nikkor was 50mm f1.4.
