Another great part in your bathtub serie! The dolly on the crane is just perfect!
Some closeups have some jitter that you could easily get rid of with a stabilization. What post package are you using actually ?

Hi David - Thanks for picking this - Will upload a new version soon. FCP.

Brilliant Keith! How many shooting days?
  • Keith Loutit plus 2 years ago
Hi Angel - For the Port Shots it took 3 x 3 hours on different days. Lots of no starts due to weather at this time of year. The intro scenes were shot a while back.

Keith - brilliant. You've inspired lots of folks and this one is tops as well.

If I may ask... many people believe you're using the Canon EOS 5D Mark II because of the quality of your work, but I suspect that you're not. I've been looking for information on your equipment but haven't been able to find any authoritative links... would you be willing to share what you're using?

I just made a post on my blog yesterday with other tilt shifts done with the 5D mk ii. Thought you and others might like to see:

awesome video! great feel in it.
but i stil don't understand where that blur comes from in tilt-shift photography. can someone please explain me these things? because it looks like the blur is just postproduced. thanks. :)

  • marc montebello 2 years ago
the fact that most of these frames work so brilliantly as still images speaks volumes on your attention to detail. this 'video' is truly a joy to watch.. and not shot on one of those newfangled D'V'SLR's. amen brotha!

YOU ARE THE MASTER OF THIS STUFF!!! :)))))))
Great footage mate, how did you get the footage that looked like you were standing right on the very top of the bridge's north pillions....MAGIC! ABSOLUTELY MAGIC!
God hasn't the old Botany changed, port Botany wasn't there when I left Sydney. I still remember the old wooden coal pier that use to be there & dad and I use to fish off it....I caught the BIGGEST leather jacket you've ever seen off that pier :)))))
Those shots are Amazing mate... STUNNING STUFF
Love it! Love it!! Love it!!!

How many pics does it take to make this kind of movie?
And how do you do it, set some interval?

    Inspiring as hell.
  • Keith Loutit plus 2 years ago
Hi - It depends a lot on the subject. In some cases I've been lucky enough to get away with under 15,000 stills. Other films like Bathtub IV took a lot more taken over the whole summer. Cheers,

Another great film Keith. I love that yu incorporated camera movement. I've got 3 questions for you:

    1. How did you manage the zoom? I'm guessing in post.
That brings me to the next one.
    2. What file size do you capture the stills in? and finally
    3. What tilt shift lenses do you use with the d3 bodies?

    Cheers,

    Alex

  • Freedom Kit 2 years ago
Keith- totally brilliant concepts and execution. Your work is new to me... just watched them all. For me, the clear standout is Bathtub IV because of the music. Your style is so personal and powerful - very broad and open-minded - I really think it is best served by music with equal depth and emotion. The techno-dance music is a bit stagnant and shallow, in my opinion, and cheapens the experience. (works better for commercial purposes, i imagine). Whereas Bathtub IV really soars.

Keep up the fantastic work, however you see fit, of course! You deserve endless praise (and reward) for your efforts.

Great video. Thank you. That tilt shift lens gives a totally different look. Do you use a timer for your D3? I have done time lapse with my still camera but don't have one. I take one frame at a time.
