30. Blender 2.5, - Got flexible?
New Blender's event system is working like a charm, with realtime updates, and non-blocking tools.

Check this video to see how I can playback an animation, while modeling, tweaking the interface, materials, rendering, everything realtime.

Blender 2.5 is a development version, try it yourself by getting special builds compiled by the community at GraphicAll.org

Blender is an Open Source 3D Suite.
Check blender.org (the latest official release is 2.49, bit different than the version shown this video)

Ok but which lets you add objects in your scene? because I've tested a few and I do not have access to this feature.
  • Visual Feast 5 months ago
Add object has been changed from Spacebar to shift+A, btw.
  • UncleZeiv 5 months ago
@Mikael: never mind, just search for the "add object" function using the search tool!

fantastic...thanks a lot for making that fun as well :)
    I have a question tho...
what do u use for video captures....??
    thanks in advance
  • Pablo Vazquez 5 months ago
    thanks!

I use recordMydesktop por video capture
    recordmydesktop.sourceforge.net

It saves it as ogg theora, then I encoded it into x264 using mencoder (mplayer).

    cheers!
  • Mikael Simeon 5 months ago
What command line you typed in to encode X264? or what are the settings you used?
  • jedihe 5 months ago
I suggest you to use mediacoder, which will allow you to do even multi-pass encoding without worrying at all about the command line tools... pretty cool for encoding h.264

Any news on BMesh being done in time for inclusion?

Where the hell is that spin tool? The mouse didn't even move and all of a sudden it was spin duplicated! I used the search function to find spin, clicked on it, and blender crashed. I'm on OSX

What's your laptop specification BTW? ;)
  • Pablo Vazquez 5 months ago
    hey, it is a Dell XPS M1530, Intel Core2 Duo @ 1.50GHz (that's why I said it was crappy), 2GB RAM with a GeForce 8400M GS 256MB.
  • Chainz 5 months ago
I'd love to have such a crap...
  • Pablo Vazquez 5 months ago
well nowadays most graphic artists have more than 1.5GHz machines and at least 2 or more GB RAM.

  • Benjamin Bailey 5 months ago
very awesome, nice! I hate to hear that adding objects is changed to Shift+A ("a" for "add"?) because I am used to Spacebar and because AKey is already being used with animation playback and selection
  • Pablo Vazquez 5 months ago
wha? It will be Space, Shift+A is one of the many ways of bringing the Add menu in Blender currently (2.4x even), anyways, keymaps will be custom, i don't really get why people keeps complaining about this kind of things still..

and the ALT + A key is for playback, A for selecting/deselecing, while SHIFT + A always been the Add menu.

Is just added for debugging, you're not suppose to use this build anyway, devs are free to add the tools to whatever key they want, is just debugging now, it will be cleaned up for the official release..

    geez..

    Duuuuude That Was SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!

    I must be missing something.
-My Preview Renders NEVER look as good as the final.
-I can't get real time shading like everyone else (It's always bright and shadeless. :(
-And I can NEVER EVER get my settings to stick. It always returns to the default and my setting's Name is gone. :(

    HELP!!!!!
  • Richard T. White Jr. 5 months ago
BTW, I'm using the latest build (2.49) from the Blender site.
  •
  • Benjamin Bailey 5 months ago
@Pablo - Sorry, I forgot about Shift+A being standard. And you're right, customizable hotkeys are great. Sorry for complaining, this isn't the right place for user feedback.

Will it be possible for one window to loop animation, and another window static for actually animating, so we can see our animation realtime?

Your obviously well rounded with Blender in general.
