2. California Triple
Growing up in a low income, predominantly African-American neighborhood in Colerain Township, Ohio, board enthusiast, Chris “Crib” Butler, had no idea that one day he would call the mountains of Lake Tahoe, beaches of Santa Cruz, and streets of San Francisco his playground. Today, he is living his dream of making skateboards and pursuing his passions for surfing, snowboarding, and skateboarding.

Join Crib on a 500 mile, 18-hour journey throughout Northern California, as he attempts to do all three board sports in one day (California Triple). See for yourself how the dream is still alive.

Primary raw footage was filmed over an 18-hour time period, during a 500 mile journey through Lake Tahoe, Santa Cruz, and San Francisco with Chris 'Crib' Butler.

so happy how this turned out... i guess azeem had the vision that i was having a hard time seeing at 3.45am that day... :) great work azeem, i know you put a LOT of time getting this put together and i'm super-psyched to be a small part of this project. anytime you need a driver/tripod holder/BK-getter, i'm your man!! :)

Great video. It's really nice to see a piece about snowboarding, surfing, and skateboarding that conveys a completely different experience than the mainstream "extreme sports" videos.

I'm just getting started in camera work and I'm wondering how you were able to track the subject so well in the long clip in the water. Can you share any tips?
  • DOE Productions 2 years ago
Thanks F K. Yeah one of the main reasons I wanted to make this short on Chris was because I wanted to show the laid back and chill side of these sports which Chris practices on a daily basis. (his long boards are his primary mode of transportation to his work). The music and the san francisco bay area back drop really helped in getting that feeling across also.

This is my first short so I am glad to hear that you were able to get our point so right on. Thanks again.

That was awesome! It took me awhile to find a computer that could play it, but I'm glad I finally saw it. The story, filming and music was all very well done. It made me smile. The bay area is so beautiful...I really miss it.

I seriously wish I had more friends like you! You seem like a really awesome person, Dave Rastovich told me to "Always enjoy my surfing" I think that applies to everything. So always enjoy it! :D

Thanks Scott. This is just our way of life. We do this for fun. We all have day jobs but we try to enjoy life when there is free time.

As if I didn't already love board sports, this makes me love them more. The gentle flow and the laid back attitude, exactly what each and every board sport and life in general needs more of. Chris and the group involved in the making of this movie have gone far beyond giving me inspiration. You have managed to put me in the mindset I know I need. Keep up the great work and never stop having fun.
